Visiting Macedon Ranges

Macedon Ranges is located on the Country of the Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Peoples.

These three groups are the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land, and along with the Wathaurung and Boon Wurrung, make up the federation of the Kulin Nation.

There are nine villages to discover in the Macedon Ranges, connected by undulating rural landscapes, pine and eucalyptus forests.

Hanging Rock

The region is also home to the famous ‘Hanging Rock’, a sacred aboriginal site made famous by the book ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’ by Joan Lindsay (later adapted into a film by Peter Weir). Hanging Rock is a popular destination in the Macedon Ranges for hiking, picnics, events and concerts.

The Macedon Ranges is within close proximity to Melbourne and Bendigo, perfect for a day trip or relaxing getaway. Jump in your car in Melbourne CBD and you’ll arrive at the start of the Macedon Ranges in only 45 minutes.

You can also travel here by comfortable V-Line regional train from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station or Bendigo.
