New Year's Day Races at Hanging Rock

Experience the famous New Years Day Races at the Hanging Rock Racecourse on 1st of January and get ready for a great day of Country Racing! Hanging Rock racecourse is surrounded by the Hanging Rock Reserve Park, located in the beautiful and unspoiled MacedonRanges. The dual Calder Freeway will see you there within a mere 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. The park is not only breathtaking to those that visit but a national icon following Joan Lindsay’s book and film, ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock.’ However the history of the park does not end there, boasting a rich and interesting past. The closest town to Hanging Rock is Woodend, a town full of that sort after country charm, which makes it a spot very popular with tourists. Throw out a rug on the lawns whilst enjoying all of the racing action right from the Mounting Yard to the Winning Post at your leisure. Indulge yourself with a Umbrella Package on the home straight for your and your friends. Alternatively, experience the luxury of your own private marquee and upgrade your package to include food and beverages. There's free kids activities and live entertainment on course to backdrop an incredible day of racing. We encourage racegoers to embrace country casual; where you can enjoy backing a winner from our bars and bookmakers on course. Up here in the naturally cool Macedon Ranges, we work hard for our summertime and we want to bask in it … with you! So, come visit us for our signature celebration season! Join us for a month-long celebration of wine, summer and good times in the scenic Macedon Ranges, as we welcome back our Summertime Fling Festival for the fourth year running. Each weekend of the festival offers a different selection of events hosted by a number of our wineries across the region. Expect live music, outstanding local produce, good vibes and the long-awaited return of the Victorian summer sun. Most importantly, bank on our unbeatable selection of local wines, which are lovingly made in small batches with real wine-stained human hands.

Australia Day Races at Hanging Rock

Spend Australia Day in the stunning surrounds of Hanging Rock, and enjoy the tradition and excitement of a day at the races. Gates open 11am. General Admission is your pass to a full day of racing action in the country, where you’re sure to have a day that’s got it all. Pre-purchasing your ticket is a great way to avoid the queue on race day and walk straight into the action. Children aged 16 & under are free and must be accompanied by an adult.

Run the Rock 2025

Run the Rock is held at the ever-stunning Hanging Rock in Victoria’s beautiful Macedon Ranges. A short drive from Woodend and Mount Macedon, and only one hour from Melbourne’s CBD, there’s a distance for everyone with the 22km Half Marathon, 13.5km, 5km or 2km for kids. With spectacular views and native wildlife, you get to experience running on trails, paths, and roads, including a lap at the base of Hanging Rock. Afterwards celebrate your achievements in our event village with live music, food trucks, games for the whole family, and more. Don't miss out on ticking off this bucket-list event!
