Camel’s Hump Lookout, Mt Macedon
Drive towards the summit of Mt Macedon along Cameron Drive to reach Camel’s Hump. The top of Camels Hump is the highest peak in the Macedon Ranges at 1011m, with superb views of the surrounding countryside. It is a steep 500m ascent to reach the viewing platform the top, but it’s worth it!
Like nearby Hanging Rock, the rocky outcrop that is the Camel’s Hump is a mamelon, a volcanic feature formed six million years ago when thick lava squeezed up through a small vent in the earth’s crust.
When you descend the lookout, there are some other great bushwalks to do in the area. One of the most popular is the Camels Hump to Days Picnic Ground route, which is 1.8km, 30‐40 minutes one way. The circuit track loops around the Camels Hump and continues over Mount Macedon Road and on to Days Picnic Ground.
Major Mitchell Lookout, Mt Macedon
Follow Cameron Drive to the summit of Mt Macedon. Here you’ll find Major Mitchells lookout that offers stunning views to the northwest of the range. Nearby Top of the Range Tea Rooms is a great spot for a post-lookout Devonshire Tea. While you’re here, take a short walk to Mt Macedon Memorial Cross, or enjoy one of the many bushwalks throughout Memorial Cross Reserve.
Hanging Rock Reserve Summit, Woodend
Hike Hanging Rock Reserve’s Summit Walk to experience fascinating rock formations and stunning rural vistas when you reach the top. Wide sealed paths make the walk reasonably easy for people of average fitness.
