Macedon Ranges farm gates
Drive our scenic backcountry roads and you will find all sorts of treasures, from fresh duck eggs, beautiful flowers, garlic and bread.
Rich volcanic soils, distinct seasons and bountiful water are signatures of the Macedon Ranges and it shows in our produce. Locality, sustainability, seasonality and unbridled passion for year-round growing practices are attributes personified by our small-scale orchards, vineyards, farmers and producers.
Organic, heirloom and everyday produce is what we do best. Think cherries, zucchinis and beans in summer, rare varieties of mushrooms in autumn, and up to 30 kinds of potatoes and root vegetables in winter.
Biodynamic and organic practices are commonplace in the Macedon Ranges farming community. Free-range meats, meat products and organic poultry hail from rare-breed farms, and our lovingly handmade specialty cheeses are award-winning.
Mountain View Garlic Farm offers a great range of fresh local produce at the foot of Mount Macedon in the village of Woodend.
Olives also grow particularly well in the region, producing delicious table olives and extra virgin olive oils fit for anyone’s pantry. Villa Pillegi Olive Farm & Cafe in Gisborne is open most weekends (call in advance to check).
Flower lovers can book peony paddock open days around November at Spring Hill Peony Farm or Romswood Peony Farm. These gorgeous peony farms throw open their paddock gates for visitors to pick their own peonies and enjoy a picnic.
Or look out for flower farm gates such as the Woodend Flower Farm for their weekly display of fresh cut flowers, along with 302 Flower Farm located at the top of Mount Gisborne.
Make sure to check out when our farmers markets are on each weekend too!
